How to Install IP Camera Step by Step

IP Camera IP Camera Wi-Fi and Live box - How to set up your Live box step by step

This Article will allow you to install an Internet IP camera and configure it in Wi-Fi to your Live box,
 Internet box.
By following the step-by-step steps below, you will be able to install your web camera in a
few minutes, and make it accessible both on your local network and via the Internet from
anywhere in the world. (IPad, Samsung Galaxy, tablet Android or Windows 8), a computer
(PC or Mac), a smartphone (iPhone, Android phone or Windows Mobile, 3G phone with
internet browser ...).
By following the step-by-step steps below, you will be able to install your web camera in a few minutes, and make it accessible both on your local network and via the Internet from anywhere in the world. (IPad, Samsung Galaxy, tablet Android or Windows 8), a computer (PC or Mac), a smartphone (iPhone, Android phone or Windows Mobile, 3G phone with internet browser ...).

Here are the steps in this Article:

Step 1: Connect your Camera to your Live box
Step 2: Obtain the IP address of the Camera
Step 3: Set your Live box: Opening ports
4th Step: consult your camera remotely via Internet and / or IPhone

Step 1: Connect your camera to your Live box with a network cable.

The first step, simple but extremely important, is to associate your internet camera to your Live box
via a RJ45 network cable. Even if the models of IP cameras available on the HomeProtection.fr site are
Wi-Fi cameras, that is to say, working wirelessly to connect to the Internet, the use of an RJ45
network cable is necessary for this first step. This cable is supplied in each of the boxes containing
 our cameras.
Just plug this cable behind the camera, and then connect the other end to your Live box. Be careful,
in no case should you connect your Internet IP camera directly to your computer
Do not forget, however, to connect your camera to an electrical outlet: the RJ45 cable used in this first
step does not electrically power the camera.

Step 2 - Obtain the IP address of the camera:

This second step is also very important because it will consist in retrieving the IP address of the camera
on the local network (or intranet). Each device on a network has an IP address, so you need to know
the address of your camera to connect with an Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari ...).
In order to find this IP address, you have several solutions, the easiest way is to use the PC software
provided on the CD that comes with the camera. You can also download it in the technical support
section of our website. A version for MacOS is also available in this section.
Launch the software and identify the IP address corresponding to the IP camera you want to configure.

If You has been detected and its IP address is http://192.168.1.10.

Then, via this IP address, you will be able to connect to the interface of the IP camera, via your usual
Internet browser and to set it. To do this, simply enter in the address bar of your browser the
IP address obtained during the manipulations described above (Figure 2) followed by the port number
if necessary. In our example, the port number is 80 by default, so it is not necessary to enter it
because port 80 is the default port of the http protocol, it is implicit. If for your camera, the port is
different from 80 then you will have to enter in the address bar of your browser the IP address of the
camera followed by ":" and the port number. Example: http://192.168.1.10:8001
Note: To know the default port of your IP camera you can refer to the following tutorial: What is the
default port of my IP camera? (But you can change the camera's port number if you want by
connecting to the camera's administration interface).
Enter the IP address of the camera in the address bar of the Internet browser
Once you have entered these IDs, you will be taken to the administration panel of the IP camera.
From now on, your camera can be accessed on the local network. However, it is not yet accessible
 via the Internet.
You will then be able to set the Wi-Fi association of your Internet router (Live box) to your camera,
in particular telling him / her the WEP security key of your Live box. This key is indicated on the sticker
 present under the live box.
Caution - Before clicking "Submit" - you must press the Association button (REG) of your Live box
(depending on the model of Live box, keep pressing the association button during search, or simply
press Times for the Wi-Fi indicator to blink).

Click Submit. Wait about 30 seconds ...
The following sentence appears on the screen: "The unit restarts. Do not turn it off. Please wait ... »
A countdown is triggered (do not unplug the cables during this time)
Once the countdown is complete:
Disconnect the network cable.
Turn off the IP camera by unplugging the AC adapter.
Reconnect the AC adapter.
Wait about 30 seconds.
The local IP address of the camera will change to Wi-Fi, use the software to get the IP address of the
camera, enter this IP address in the address bar of your Internet browser.
If you have access to the identification panel of the camera, it is that your IP camera is well set.
If you cannot access it, you will have to repeat the above manipulation: you have probably committed
an error by entering your WEP key.

Step 3: Set your Live box: Opening ports
In this third step, we will open a port in your Live box, in order to make it possible to access your IP
camera from the Internet. This step is simple to achieve, but must be done with seriousness and
 application.
Before you go further, you need to know the public IP address of your Live box. You can find the latter
with simplicity by using for example the site: http://www.monip.org
Since there are two models of Live box, we will see below the procedure to follow according to the
type of Box Internet you own:
(Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and enter the following address in the address bar:
http://192.168.1.1 You will then be asked to enter your Login and your password. By default,
these are:
Login: admin
Password: admin
You will then have access to the administration of your live box. From the set of options, choose
 "LAN Server".
Click on the "Add" button
You will now need to enter the following fields:
Server Name: In this field, enter the name of your choice, taking care not to use accented spaces
or letters.
Access Enabled: Select the "Yes" option.
Protocol: Our cameras accept both protocols. However, we advise you to opt for the TCP protocol
and then recommend this step a second time for the UDP protocol.
From port: the number of the first port to be opened. In our example, we will use port 80.
In port: the number of the last port to be opened. Since our camera requires only one port,
we will also indicate in this option 80 for our example.
Local IP address: In this field, it is necessary to indicate the IP address you obtained during the 2nd
step.

Note: By default, HD cameras use the internal port 8001 and VGA cameras use port 80.

Once all of these fields have been filled in, you must click on "Apply".

Save the configuration to avoid having to start again if there is a problem with the Live box

You will then see that a new line has been added to the table: the parameterization is now complete.
Launch your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and enter the address in the address
bar: http://192.168.1.1 You will then be asked to enter your Login and your password. By default,
these are:

Login: admin
Password: admin

Click Setup then "Advanced" and then Router.
In the Router - NAT section, click "Add"
Fill in the fields as follows:
Personalized service: in this field, enter the name of your choice, taking care not to use accented
spaces or letters.
Protocol: Our cameras accept both protocols. However, we recommend that you choose TCP
External Port: Specify the port number to be opened here.
Internal port: copy the same port number as before
Note: To know the default port of your IP camera you can refer to the following tutorial: What is the
default port of my IP camera?

Launch your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and enter the address in the
address bar: http://192.168.1.1 You will then be asked to enter your Login and your password.
By default, these are:
Login: admin
Password: admin
You will then have access to the administration of your live box. From the set of options, choose
Networks and Services> Live box> Advanced Settings> NAT / PAT.
Click the "Add a new rule" -> "Create a new rule" option
You will now need to enter the following fields:
Name / Application: In this field, enter the name of your choice, taking care not to use accented
spaces or letters.
External port: The number of the external port to be opened. In our example, we will use port 8001.
Internal port: the number of the internal port to be opened. Since our camera requires only one port,
we will indicate port 80 for our example.
Protocol: Our cameras accept both protocols. However, we recommend that you use the TCP protocol.
Equipment: Choose your camera from the list.
Access Enabled: Select the "Yes" option.
Note: To know the default port of your IP camera you can refer to the following tutorial: What is the
default port of my IP camera?
Once all of these fields have been filled in, you must click on "Apply".
Save the configuration to avoid having to start again if there is a problem with the Live box
You will then see that a new line has been added to the table: the parameterization is now complete.
Step 4: access your Wi-Fi IP camera via internet

If you follow the different recommendations of this tutorial, your camera is accessible from the
internet. To access it, you will need to enter your public IP address in the address bar of your web
browser, followed by ":" and the port number you have opened. The address of your camera will be
 of the form:

It is important to note that it is accessible even if your computer is switched off: only you need to
keep your camera and your Live box on.
Use an MSN account to ask the camera how to attach it. This solution is quite tedious because before
accessing the camera it will be necessary to connect to MSN to obtain the IP address of the camera.
More information on configuring MSN in section 3.2 of the user manual in French of the camera
(available in the technical support section).
There is also another way that the "MSN account" method for the variable IP address is to create a
virtual DynDNS Server account to get an IP address and then configure your Live box to tell it the
parameters of that DynDNS in The DynDNS Service Settings section. This method is the most suitable
for easier access to your camera (s). To do this, see the tutorial: How to set up a DynDNS if your
Internet Box has a Dynamic IP address.
Some of our cameras also contain a DynDNS address offered by the manufacturer. If you have only
one camera to view behind your live box, then you will be able to use this DynDNS service offered
by the manufacturer without any problem although we advise you nevertheless to favor the
configuration of a DynDNS on your Live box for you Free from any dependence with the service
offered by the manufacturer. On the other hand, if you have more than one then it will necessarily
pass through this type of service to configure several ports behind this Dynamic DNS.
